BIOL 1004 FYE: Getting Started

Biological Sciences First Year Experience: Researching to Learn about Potential BIOL Careers

Welcome!

Hello!  My name is Kat, and I'm Liaison to Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech University Libraries.  I'll be your librarian for courses and projects related to Biology.  My picture and contact info is on this course guide page. Feel free to contact me by email or phone with questions, or to set up a consultation appointment.

If you have questions about research or the library and I'm not available, don't forget our Ask a Librarian service!

TIPS for Successful Researching!

1. Researching from Off Campus? See this Off Campus Sign In page to find out about getting to sources via the library website, the LibX Toolbar, or Google Scholar Settings to be sure you'll have the most full text access.

2.  Use the library search on the University Libraries home page to conduct a Google-like search of most of our library resources - both online and print. While it's not a disciplinary database, like the others that I recommend to you on the 'Selecting a Database' page, it can help you gain a broad overview of a particular research topic or question.

3. Discover recommended research databases and overview sources for biological sciences research on this guide's Selecting a Database page.

4.  When trying to access articles and other resources, look for the Get VText box:
