NSF Data Management Plan (DMP) Guide: Services and Resources

Testimonial

"I needed some guidance for developing the data management plan (DMP) for an NSF proposal. I contacted the Data Curation, Research & Informatics Division at the University Libraries here at Virginia Tech. In a matter of a few hours, I received some excellent feedback and professional help. I was able to learn about the most effective methods used to handle, share, and preserve my data for the project. Especially, Data Consultants worked the extra hours to help me complete the data management plan for my proposal submission. Outstanding!"

— Raffaella De Vita, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics

Need Help for DMP Revision?

If the NSF Program Officer requires you to submit a revised Data Management Plan (DMP) as part of the proposal review process, the University Libraries Data Consulting team is here to help.  We can provide language that addresses institutionally based data archiving and long-term accessibility. Consulting Services

Data Services members are available to assist you in creating effective and comprehensive data management plans for your research project.  Contact us at dataservices@vt.edufor assistance; we will respond within 24 hours and our members have extensive research and consulting experience from which to pull in advising on data management plan creation.

We will meet with you in your office or elsewhere to discuss

  • the data to be generated and managed in your project, and
  • any institutional, funder or publisher requirements for managing and sharing that data.

Following our discussion we will send you our written notes and advice on how to address the many aspects of research data management for your particular project.  You can then send the plan back to us for feedback as many times as you like.

If you are on a tight deadline you can also send your draft DMP to dataservices@vt.edu and we will provide feedback as soon as possible. However, the more lead time we have to assist you, the more effective our assistance can be!
