Digital Humanities: Centers

DH Centers

Centers are vital to DH creation and sustainability. Centers facilitate collaboration. They often garner the authority to attain funding and resources for projects, student work, and other initiatives. They also demonstrate an organization's dedication to DH. It's important to note that Centers are different from Organizations, such as those listed in the Resources tab, though just as important. Below is a list of active DH Centers and Institutes. This list is extensive but not comprehensive.

Boston College: BCDS (Boston College Digital Scholarship)

"The Boston College Libraries Digital Scholarship Group connects people, ideas, and projects. We explore and document new tools and support teaching and research in a variety of areas that utilize broad methodologies in the digital humanities." 

Bucknell University: Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship

"Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship is located on the third floor of Bertrand Library. DP&S staff are committed to collaborating with faculty and staff to enrich the experiences of learning, teaching and research at Bucknell."

Cleveland State University: Center for Public History + DH

"The Center is focused on bringing together individuals and scholarship in history, education, library and information sciences and technology in order to better serve the public.  We specialize in state-of-the-art public history projects and resources, mobile apps and websites, and oral history."

DHRX (Digital Humanities Research) at Pitt

"The DHRX is a cross-campus faculty research network designed to highlight innovative, digitally-focused academic work at the University of Pittsburgh. Bringing together researchers from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds, the network is dedicated to exploring the creative use of digital technologies in humanities and social science research."

Duke University: DHI (Digital Humanities Initiative)

"The Duke Digital Humanities Initiative at the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute promotes new ways to engage in and learn about the use of technology in humanities scholarship."

Duke University: PhDLab

Michigan State University: Matrix

MIT: Hyperstudio

Northeastern University: NULab

"The NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks is Northeastern University’s center for Digital Humanities and Computational Social Science."

Northwestern: Media and Design Studio

"The Media and Design Studio offers a wide variety of services to supported WCAS faculty, complementing their syllabi. We provide teaching labs and classrooms, digital equipment, training and workflow suggestions to you and your students. We also develop online resources for online learning and scholarship."

Princeton University: CDH (Center for Digital Humanities)

"The Center for Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary research center and academic unit within the Princeton University Library. We embrace an inclusive understanding of DH that investigates the myriad ways digital methods and technologies are opening new avenues for research into the human experience, past and present."

Ritsumeikan University: DH Center for Japanese Arts and Cultures

"The “Digital Humanities Center for Japanese Arts and Cultures” project is an undertaking by Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto that stems from the 21st COE Program Kyoto Art Entertainment Innovation Research project which has resulted in digital archives and databases of tangible and intangible cultural assets related to Kyoto and Japanese culture with the aim of integrating humanities and information technology."

Stanford University: CESTA (Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis)

Stanford University: Stanford Literary Lab

"The Stanford Literary Lab is a research collective that applies computational criticism, in all its forms, to the study of literature. The Lab is open to students and faculty at Stanford, and, on a more ad hoc basis, to those from other institutions."

Texas A&M: CoDHR (Center of Digital Humanities Research)

UCLA: HumTech (Human Technology, previously known as CDH)

University of Iowa Libraries: Digital Scholarship & Publishing Studio

Yale University: DH Lab

"The 2015 founding of the Yale University Library Digital Humanities Laboratory (DHLab) signifies the University's continued commitment to advancing research and teaching in the humanities. Located within the Franke Family Digital Humanities Laboratory on the first floor of Sterling Memorial Library, the DHLab offers space, community, and resources for Yale researchers who are working with digital methods to pursue humanistic inquiries. DHLab staff are available to consult on any stage of a digital humanities project's lifecycle."
