Data Management Planning Resources
Data Services has developed several resources to help Virginia Tech Researchers create effective data management plans (DMPs).
Use the VT Data Management Planning Questionnaire to carefully and comprehensively consider data management for your research project.
This Questionnaire can also be used to create a draft DMP. This process is described in detail on the first page of the Questionnaire. We can give you further guidance in this process (and in meeting requirements specific to your solicitation and funder).
VT Researchers can also use DMPTool.
The DMPTool is a free, open-source, online application that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs). These plans are now required by many funding agencies as part of the grant proposal submission process. The DMPTool provides a click-through wizard for creating a DMP that complies with funder requirements. It also has direct links to funder websites, help text for answering questions, and data management best practices resources.
