VT Libraries offer an open access (OA) fund to subsidize article processing charges (APCs) for scholarly, peer-reviewed OA journals. This guide includes the request form, fund guidelines, and links to finding OA journals and publishers' OA policies.

About VT OASF

The OASF has reached its funding limit as of April 5, 2023 and is closed for the remainder of the fiscal year. Please check back July 1, 2023, for updated information on the fund.

VT Libraries subsidizes APCs (article processing charges) for articles accepted for publication in scholarly peer-reviewed open access (OA) journals.

A primary goal of the Open Access Subvention Fund is to enable authors to engage in open publishing environments. We also want to raise awareness among Virginia Tech authors of the benefits of open publishing and to encourage new ways of thinking about digital scholarship and information access. This initiative aligns with the University Libraries strategic direction to support the research endeavors of the VT faculty, students, and staff, including the process of providing unrestricted access to digital research and scholarship.

Interested VT authors should begin by reviewing the Guidelines and then complete the Request form.

Please note that no-cost, embargo-free open access is available through Virginia Tech's Open Access Policy, an addition to Policy 13000 [PDF] approved by the Board of Visitors on March 22, 2021. Available to everyone with a VT affiliation, the policy enables deposit of the accepted version of scholarly articles in VTechWorks, the university's open access repository.
