VT Libraries will subsidize APCs (article processing charge) for articles accepted for publication in scholarly peer-reviewed open access (OA) journals.
A primary goal of the Open Access Subvention Fund is to enable authors to engage in open publishing environments. We also want to raise awareness among Virginia Tech authors of the benefits of open publishing and to encourage new ways of thinking about digital scholarship and information access.
This initiative aligns with the University Libraries strategic direction to support the research endeavors of the VT faculty, students, and staff, including the process of providing unrestricted access to digital research and scholarship. In light of the Board of Visitors passing the VT OA Policy by modifying Policy 13000 [PDF] on March 22, 2021, you have several options for depositing articles in VTechWorks, the university's open access repository.
Many OA fees are reduced through discounts offered by University Libraries' memberships and subscriptions.
Interested VT authors should begin by reviewing the Guidelines and then complete the OASF request form.
