VT Open Access Subvention Fund: Reports and Data

VT Libraries offer an open access (OA) fund to subsidize article processing charges (APCs) for scholarly, peer-reviewed OA journals. This guide includes the request form, fund guidelines, and links to finding OA journals and publishers' OA policies.

Annual Reports

The Virginia Tech Libraries issues annual reports for its Open Access Subvention Fund.

OpenAPC Data

The OpenAPC initiative releases datasets on fees paid (in Euros) for open access journal articles by universities in an effort to promote transparency in OA publishing. Below you can explore OpenAPC data for article processing charges (APCs) paid by the Open Access Subvention Fund at Virginia Tech Libraries (also available at https://treemaps.intact-project.org/apcdata/virginia-tech/). Data is current through the end of 2018.

Note that APCs for articles written by Virginia Tech authors that were paid from grants or other funds are not included in this data, which cover only those articles funded through the VT OASF.  Article funding was capped at $1500 per article from 2012-2018, at $2000 beginning in 2019 until Covid-19 struck and the cap reverted to $1500 on June 30, 2020. Oct. 8, 2021 the cap was raised again to $2000.
