Resources for School of Education Extended Campus Students: Library Access

This guide is designed for School of Education students studying online and at extended campus locations

Welcome! This guide is designed to provide resources to support your research throughout your degree program. However, it's not the only resource you have - feel free to contact the Education librarian, Lisa Becksford, with additional questions or to set up a virtual appointment.

Schedule an appointment with me!

The best way to get in touch is to send an email or sign up for an appointment during my regularly-scheduled office hours. To sign up, please click the button below. If none of those times work, please email me to find another time. For 2024-2025, consultations are available either in-person in Newman Library or virtually via Zoom. Please note that the default appointment length is 15 minutes, but longer appointments are available.

Accessing Library Resources

Even though you're studying online or at one of Virginia Tech's extended campus locations, you have access to all the resources of the VT Libraries.

Access to electronic resources:

When you access a database from the VT library website, you'll be prompted to log in with your PID and password and use 2-factor authentication. This is the same login you use for many VT services, including Canvas, Hokie SPA, and your email. Once you've logged in, you should have full access to all of our electronic resources, including ebooks, journal articles, and streaming videos. If you run into any problems with our electronic resources (such as being asked to pay for a resource), please use our Ask a Librarian service to get help right away and report the problem.

Access to physical items:

In addition to access to our electronic resources, you also have access to physical items from our libraries and from libraries around the world through Interlibrary Loan. Physical items will be mailed to you along with a prepaid mailing envelope so that you can return the item for free. You can also use Interlibrary Loan to request journal articles that VT doesn't have, and these will be sent to you as PDFs via email. Check out the videos below for more information about Interlibrary Loan. Note that the library website has changed a bit since these videos were created, but much of the information is still relevant.
