OpenAthens - Remote Access to Carilion Subscriptions

To create an OpenAthens account, you must:

• Be affiliated with Carilion or VTCSOM (this includes VTCSOM Students)

• Have an @carilionclinic.org email address to receive your activation email

1.   To get started, register here: https://register.openathens.net/cchsl.com/register

        a. Select "Carilion Hospitals and Clinical Practices" as your Institution

        b. Select "Other Clinical Staff" as your Professional Role

        c. Fill out your first and last name

        d. Use your @carilionclinic.org email address*

        e. You can ignore the fields for Carilion badge number, telephone number, and Discipline, department program of study, or specialty

2.    You will receive an activation email, follow the link in your email to create a password and finish setting up your OpenAthens account

To access Carilion Library resources, you can either:

• Use your OpenAthens username and password to access Carilion resources through the VTCSOM guide: https://guides.lib.vt.edu/vtcsom_library/medicalAthens -or-
