Article Requests
VTCSOM M3 & M4 students and VTCSOM faculty: We will retrieve articles for you if you provide the citations to the materials you need. Please email the PubMed PMID, the DOI, or the complete citation to vtcsomlibrary@vt.edu and we will get back to you.
Borrowing
Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff: Present your Hokie Passport at the Service Desk. To renew materials online, your Hokie PID is your username and your password is one you created by choice.
VTCSOM clinical faculty: Present your Carilion Photo ID at the Service Desk. Library staff will create an account for you if you do not have one. To renew materials online, your Hokie PID is your username and your password is one you created by choice.
Carilion employees: Present your Carilion Photo ID at the Service Desk. Library staff will create an account for you if you do not have one. To renew materials online, your library card number is your username and your password is one you created by choice.
Community members: do the following to open an account:
- Present a valid Virginia state issued photo ID such as a Virginia driver's license, a Virginia DMV ID card, or a photo ID from another Virginia college.
- Fill out a new patron form.
- Once we have created your account, you may check circulating materials out of the library.
- Community members are not permitted off campus access to licensed online materials.
To renew materials online, your username is the number on your library card and your password is one you created by choice.

Printing, faxing, and scanning
All-in-one fax/scanner/photocopier/printer
- Public computers have access to the printer
- Eduroam wifi access to the printer
Please be mindful of paper usage when printing. In the interest of being "green", if you have a particularly large print job, please consider emailing the file to yourself for viewing at another time.
Study Space and Public Computer Workstations
The VTCSOM Health Sciences Library is a designated quiet study space for VTCSOM students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Seating: 65
- Computers:
- 2 Virginia Tech computer workstations: Banner and guest Windows log-ins, Windows 10, OpenOffice, Acrobat DC, R, and access to University Libraries' online.
- 2 Virginia Tech computer workstations: Banner and guest Windows log-ins, Windows 10, OpenOffice, Acrobat DC, R, and access to University Libraries' online.
- 1 Small group study/conference room:
Access is restricted to VTCSOM students, faculty, and staff. Contact library staff to reserve the room. Student testing takes priority over all other reservations. Library staff make reservations on a first come, first served basis.
Wireless Networks
VT Open WiFi unsecured WiFi access is available to all visitors. Eduroam WiFi access is restricted to currently enrolled Virginia Tech students and currently employed Virginia Tech faculty and staff who are authorized to use this wireless service. Carilion-AppNet access is restricted to currently enrolled VTCSOM students and to currently employed Carilion staff.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Login to your ILLiad account
Interlibrary loan is a service offered to current Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff.
Materials Delivery
If an item you need is located at one of the other locations (and is not listed as a journal, on reserve, or "library use only"), you can request the material to be sent to the VTCSOM Library by requesting it through Interlibrary loan. Use your PID/password to log into the system; first-time users will be presented with a screen to create their profile in ILLiad. Submit your request (or check on the status) through your ILLiad account.

Electronic Delivery
Use Interlibrary Loan for desktop delivery of book chapters and print articles from the University Libraries collections. The item will be scanned and sent in an electronic format.
Materials from Other Libraries
Materials which are not owned by the University Libraries can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for Virginia Tech affiliated patrons.
